About Five Fourty Aviation
Founded in 2006, Five Forty Aviation, known as Fly540, is a budget airline with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Its hub can be found at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. It previously had two subsidiaries, Fly540 Angola and Fly540 Ghana, both of which ceased operations in May 2014. The airline currently has a fleet of 6 aircraft, comprised of three different types of Bombardier planes that fly to 10 destinations in Africa.
The majority of cities to which the airline operates flights are domestic locations within Kenya. The Kenyan destinations where it's possible to take a Fly540 flight include Malindi Airport, Manda Airport and Kisumu International Airport, Homa Bay Airport, Eldoret International Airport and Moi International Airport. The airline also services two locations outside of Kenya, one of which is Juba International Airport in South Sudan and the other is Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Online check-in
Online check-in is available for on Fly540 flights from 48 hours up until 2 hours before departure. In order to check in online, passengers must enter their surname as well as their booking reference number. During the check-in process, passengers can choose the seat they would like to sit in and confirm their personal details.
Once the Fly540 passenger has checked in, they are able to print out their boarding pass right away or have it sent to them by email to print out at a later date. By checking in online, passengers will save time and avoid having to wait in long queues at the airport on the date of departure.
Hand luggage allowance
Passengers are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage with them on Fly540 flights as long as it does not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm and does not weigh more than 5 kg. Hand luggage should be stored in the overhead locker above the passenger's head or under the seat in front of them.
Fly540 passengers are also allowed to take liquids on board as long as each container is not able to hold more than 100 ml. All containers should be placed in a re-sealable see-through plastic bag and the total volume of liquid may not exceed 1 litre.
Checked baggage allowance
Fly540 passengers are allowed to take 1 piece of checked luggage with them free of charge as long as it does not weigh more than 20 kg. This weight limit also takes into account any sporting equipment taken on the aircraft.
Sporting items such as golf bags, skis and bicycles can be transported but will incur a handling charge. When travelling with a bicycle, passengers should arrive at the airport 2 hours prior to departure and should ensure they deflate the bicycle's tyres when storing it in a bicycle box. Fly540 passengers are advised to label each piece of luggage with their name and address.
