About Cape Air
Headquartered at Barnstable Municipal Airport, Massachusetts, USA, Cape Air, was founded in 1989 and operates under the motto "We're your wings". Primarily offering services in the American Northeast, Midwest and in Eastern Montana, Cape Air also operates flights to the Caribbean and Micronesia through its code share agreement with its corporate partner and fellow US-based airline United Airlines.
In addition to United Airlines, Cape Air has code share agreements with JetBlue and American Airlines, while flights between Hyannis and Nantucket are operated under the Nantucket Airlines brand. Boasting a fleet of 93 aircraft and an extensive network of over 40 destinations, the airline carried close to 735,000 in 2012 and offers up to 550 flights each day, making it one of the largest independent regional airlines in the United States. In 2016, Cape Air added flights from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Bimini, Bahamas to its operating network.
Online check-in
Online check-in is not available on Cape Air flights. Passengers should therefore ensure they get to the airport early to check in directly at the terminal's check-in counters. Counters for international flights are generally open 2 hours before the departure of the flight and 90 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights.
In order to begin the check-in process, passengers must be able to present their booking reference code as well as their photo identification at the check-in counter. Any baggage that passengers wish to check in should also be presented at the check-in terminal.
Hand luggage allowance
Passengers travelling on Cape Air flights are allowed to take 1 item of free hand luggage with them on board the aircraft. The weight of each item of hand luggage should not exceed 10 kg or be larger than 157 linear centimeters in size. An infant's baggage allowance is the same as that of an adult passenger.
Baggage that is oversized or heavier than 10 kg will be subjected to an additional check-in fee and may be placed in the aircraft's cargo hold. All items of hand luggage should be able to fit in the overhead lockers or beneath the seats of the aircraft.
Checked baggage allowance
Passengers travelling on a Cape Air flight are permitted to check in for free 1 item of luggage weighing no more than 23 kg. Additional luggage allowance can be purchased with an extra fee per item. Luggage that weight more than 23 kg will also be subject to an extra charge.
Assistance-related devices such as wheelchairs and infant prams may also be checked into the cargo hold free of charge. Sports equipment and musical instruments weighing more than 23 kg can be checked in for the standard fee. Items weighing more than this will be subjected to additional charges.
