What hand luggage can I take on Finnair?
Passengers may take one piece of cabin luggage onto the plane with them as long as it is no larger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm. These dimensions must include any handles, wheels or anything else connected to the bag in question. A small personal item is also allowed which is to be no larger than 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm and both together they cannot be heavier than 8 kg. The Finnair hand luggage allowance for Business Class passengers and those holding Finnair Plus membership cards is two cabin bags and one personal item with the same maximum dimensions mentioned above. In this case, the maximum weight of all three items cannot exceed 10 kg.
Children with a reserved seat can take the same amount of carry-on luggage as an adult, but infants and those children that will be sitting on an adult’s lap have no carry-on luggage allowance. However, a foldaway stroller may be allowed onboard and car seats can also be accepted if agreed beforehand with the airline. Larger prams and pushchairs will have to go into the hold and will be carried free of charge.
There are regulations regarding the carrying of any liquids on board with you, and they will have to be packed into containers of 100ml or smaller in a clear, plastic bag. This bag will need to be examined by security so will need to be easily removable from your cabin baggage. It should not be larger than 20 cm x 20 cm, should be re-sealable and your containers should fit comfortably inside. Don’t forget that creams, gels and deodorants are also part of this restriction as are make-up items such as mascara and lipstick.
About Finnair
Finnair is one of the world’s oldest airlines as it was founded in 1923 under the name Aero O/Y. Its head office and main hub are both in Helsinki, and it flies to more than 130 destinations worldwide. As part of the Oneworld Alliance, it cooperates with many airlines including British Airways and Qantas Airways resulting in joint partnerships that benefit customers because of airline terminal sharing and loyalty programs. Passengers on Finnair flights can also take part in their frequent flyer program called Finnair Plus, and the accumulation of miles earned results in benefits including priority boarding and upgrades.
As part of a codeshare agreement, Finnair works with other airline companies including Japan Airlines and Icelandair to make it easier for customers to buy tickets for more destinations using both Finnair planes and crew as well as their partner airlines.
How do I check in online with Finnair?
Finnair online check-in is available for you to use from 36 hours before your scheduled departure, or 24 hours if you are travelling to or from the USA. If your flight is part of a codeshare program and is actually operated by another airline, then you will need to use the online check-in system of the other airline instead of Finnair. You can log on using the last name of the passenger on the booking and a booking reference number or ticket number.
Finnair also run an automatic check-in service that you can sign up to when you book your tickets. If you leave your mobile phone number when you request this service, Finnair will perform the check-in for you and send your boarding pass to your phone. If you are travelling on a morning flight, your boarding pass will be sent the previous evening. If your flight is in the afternoon or evening, you will receive your boarding pass approximately three hours before you fly. This seat booking can be rearranged if you would like to log on to the online check-in system, and you can print or download your new boarding pass before your flight.
What is my checked baggage allowance on Finnair?
The Finnair baggage policy does not include any luggage allowance for passengers holding an Economy Light fare. However, it is possible to purchase extra bags before flying if you would like to place anything in the hold. Normal Economy ticket-holders are generally allowed one piece of hold baggage up to 23 kg, although this increases to two bags for Economy Pro and Flexible ticket-holders if travelling to or from Asia, or within Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Business Class passengers may check two bags in or three if they are travelling to Asia or Havana.
Children are allowed exactly the same amount of luggage as an adult unless they are an infant and sitting on an adult’s lap for the journey. In this case, they will be allowed one piece of luggage on all flights up to 23 kg. For any of the bags that are to be placed in the hold, there is a maximum size allowed of 158 cm when adding together the height, length and depth of the item. Anything heavier or larger than the dimensions allowed will be charged excess baggage, and no bags will be accepted at all if they are greater than 32 kg.
