Royal Brunei Airlines is a state-owned airline for the country of Brunei, and their national flag carrier. The airline's main base of operations is at Brunei International Airport, which is located in Berakas only a short distance away from its headquarters in Brunei's capital of Bandar Seri Begawan. Founded in 1974, it started life with just 2 airplanes. Since then it has expanded significantly, especially during the 1990s, and now has 5 times as many aircraft. Its fleet today consists of 10 Boeing and Airbus planes.
The company now flies to 16 destinations across several continents. Royal Brunei's London Heathrow to Melbourne route, as well as its flights to Singapore, Brisbane and Dubai, are popular with passengers. Although the airline has never joined an alliance, it has codeshare flights with seven airlines, including Myanmar Airways International, Maswings, Garuda Indonesia, Turkish Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways International.
