China Airlines

About China Airlines

China Airlines is Taiwan's flag carrier and operates out of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. It was founded in 1959 and is the biggest airline in Taiwan. As well as its home base, the airline also has a hub at Kaohsiung International Airport. Focus cities for the airline are Hong Kong International Airport and Songshan Airport in Taipei. It has a fleet of more than 80 airplanes, which are a mixture of Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

China Airlines offers flights to more than 100 different destinations across Asia, North America, Oceania and Europe, including regular flights to Beijing, Melbourne, Rome and Vancouver. It has been a member of the SkyTeam alliance since 2010. The airline has two subsidiary airlines, Tigerair Taiwan and Mandarin Airlines, as well as an additional cargo service. It also has a number of codeshare agreements setup with carriers including Alitalia, Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air and Delta Airlines.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online for China Airlines flights starting from 24 hours before they are due to depart. This allows them to print out their boarding card. If they do not have luggage to check in passengers can then go directly to security upon arrival at the airport. Passengers with special requests or who are travelling in a group of 10 or more passengers cannot check in online. This online check-in service closes 3 hours before a flight's scheduled departure. Alternatively, passengers can also check in at the airport. For this option, the airline recommends that passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before their flight.

Hand luggage allowance

Economy and Premium Economy passengers on a China Airlines flight are each entitled to bring 1 item of hand luggage. This should be smaller than 56 x 36 x 23 cm including any protrusions such as handles, wheels or pockets and must not weigh more than 7 kg. Passengers in Business class can add a garment bag to this allowance as long as it is not thicker than 20 cm once folded. Hand luggage items must be able to fit either in the overhead storage locker below the seat in front of the passenger. Hand luggage that is too heavy or too bulky will need to be treated as checked luggage. If this causes the passenger to exceed their checked luggage allowance a fee will be applicable.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked baggage allowance is defined differently depending on the destination of a China Airlines flight. On flights to or from any destinations except for in the Americas, there is no maximum number of items to be checked in as long as passengers are within their permitted weight limit for checked baggage. In Economy class that limit is 20 kg while in Premium it is 25 kg. Business class has a max limit of 30 kg. On flights going to or leaving from airports in the Americas, the piece concept applies to checked luggage. Economy passengers can check in 2 items each weighing up to 23 kg, Premium Economy passengers can take 2 items of luggage each weighing up to 28 kg and Business classes passengers can check in 2 items each weighing up to 32 kg. The maximum size of any one item of checked luggage is a width plus height plus length of no more than 158 cm. Passengers who exceed their allowance in any way will have to pay excess baggage charges.

China Airline had provided good services . I was happy with the comforts of the business class cabins available for me. i also enjoyed different choices of main courses available for me to choose and it was tasty without being salty. But i was very very unhappy with the airline lounge the airline provided for me at Gatwick airport. It is just like normal coffee shops food. It was disgusting. the VIP lounge at Taipei airport is much better.
