Checked baggage allowance
In order to keep ticket prices as low as possible, bookings for FlySafair flights do not include a checked luggage allowance as standard. Instead, it is an optional extra which passengers can choose to pay to have added to their booking. They can choose to add either 1 or 2 checked luggage items to their reservation. Each item must weigh no more than 20 kg. Checked luggage allowance can be added either during booking or by contacting the airlines call centre. Any items weighing more than 32 kg will have to be transported as freight at an additional cost to the passenger.
About Fly Safair
FlySafair is a South African low-cost carrier with its headquarters located in Johannesburg. It is a subsidiary of the aviation company Safair and is entirely owned by that company. The airline was founded back in 2013 and completed its first flight not long after in 2014. This initial flight was between OR Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International Airport. It has a fleet of 7 aircraft in total with all of them from the Boeing 737 family.
The airline's main hubs are at Cape Town International Airport and OR Tambo International Airport. From here it flies to 7 cities and regional locations, all of which are domestic flights within South Africa. Its destinations are Cape Town International Airport, King Shaka International Airport in Durban, East London Airport, George Airport and both OR Tambo International Airport and Lanseria International Airport in Johannesburg. It does not currently have any codeshare partners nor is it a member of an airline alliance.
Online check-in
The easiest way to check in for a FlySafair flight is online. The airline's online check-in service is available from 24 hours ahead of a flight's departure up until 4 hours before a flight is due to leave. Passengers can check in online by using their last name and booking reference number. In addition to this option, passengers can also check in at the airport by going to one of the airline's check-in counters. These are open from 2 hours before takeoff and close again 40 minutes before a flight's scheduled departure. Passengers who have checked in online can also use the airport counters to drop off any hold luggage they may be carrying on the flight.
Hand luggage allowance
All tickets for FlySafair flights include a hand luggage allowance. This entitles all passengers to carry up to 2 pieces of hand luggage on board. The combined weight of these must not be more than 7 kg, and each item must be smaller than 56 x 36 x 23 cm. If their hand luggage is deemed either too big or too heavy when they arrive at the boarding gate, passengers will be charged and their luggage will be checked in to the aircraft's hold. The airline also has an allowance in place for passengers travelling with infants, and permits them bring on board a stroller. This is considered as a free extra item of hand luggage.
