About Allegiant Air

Allegiant Air is a United States budget air carrier that was founded in 1997 as WestJet Express, however the name was quickly changed to prevent confusion with Canada's WestJet airline. Allegiant Travel Company owns the airline and is a publicly traded company. Its headquarters are located in a suburb of Las Vegas and its flight operate out of 11 United States airports, including Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport. Across its bases it has a total fleet of 84 planes.

The company flies to more than 100 different destinations within in the United States. Its business model is built around flying from colder cities in the north to holiday spots in the south with warmer climates. Its top destinations are Orlando and St Petersburg in Florida, Las Vegas in Nevada, Phoenix in Arizona and Los Angeles in California. In addition to its scheduled flights, the company also operates regular charter flights.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online or via their mobile phones and then download a mobile boarding pass or print a paper copy starting from 24 hours before a flight. Online and mobile check-in close 45 minutes before departure. Some passengers, such as those requiring special assistance, cannot check in online or via mobile. There is an extra fee per passenger for checking in at the airport. When checking in at the airport, passengers should aim to do so a minimum of 2 hours before their flight. Seat selection is also a paid extra on Allegiant Air flights that can be added during check-in.

Hand luggage allowance

Only a small personal item such as a handbag, small rucksack or briefcase is included in an Allegiant Air flight ticket. This item must be smaller than 18 x 38 x 40 cm and should be able to fit beneath the seat in front of the passenger. Passengers can also pay to take a larger item of hand luggage on board their flight. These bags can be up to 23 x 35 x 56 cm in size and must fit inside the overhead storage compartment. These sizes include any protruding part of the bag such as wheels or pockets. If their hand luggage is too large, passengers will be charged accordingly.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers on an Allegiant Air flight do not have any checked luggage allowance included in the price of their ticket, however they can choose to add this for an additional cost. Up to 4 items of checked luggage can be paid for and added to a passenger's booking. Each item can weigh as much as 12 kg and have a combined length, width and height of up to 203 cm, including handles and wheels. Any items that are deemed heavier or larger than these allowances will incur additional charges. Children's strollers and car seats can be checked in at no extra cost.
