What hand luggage can I take on Iberia?

The Iberia hand luggage allowance permits one bag that must not exceed 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm and must weigh less than 10 kg. This should be placed in the overhead compartment when you board the plane. Passengers can also take a personal item on board which could be a handbag, laptop case or something of an equivalent size. This should be fitted underneath the seat in front of you unless you are in an emergency exit row, in which case it will also need to be placed in one of the overhead compartments.

If you have a mobile phone, PDA or laptop, these can now be left switched on throughout the flight if needed. Many Iberia planes have wifi and a data network which you can connect to, but otherwise your device should be turned onto flight mode. In case there are issues while the plane is in the air, you should always listen to and comply with the instructions from the cabin staff.

Please also be aware that there are restrictions when it comes to carrying liquids onto the plane with you. Any liquids, creams, gels or deodorants must be kept in containers of 100ml or less, and they should all be kept in a see-through bag no larger than 20 cm x 20 cm.

About Iberia

Iberia was founded in 1927 and now has Antonio Vazquez as president and Luis Gallego as CEO. With a fleet size of 81, it flies to more than 100 destinations around the world and uses Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport as its main hub. Although it has merged with British Airways under the IAG (International AirLines Group) banner, both airlines fly under their own branding. The frequent flyer programme is known as Iberia Plus and with it you can accrue Avios points to trade in for upgrades, flights or even car hire.

Iberia is a member of the Oneworld Alliance along with airlines such as Finnair and Cathay Pacific, and Iberia flights also have a codeshare agreement with both Bulgaria Air and American Airlines.

How do I check in online with Iberia?

Iberia online check-in allows you to choose your seat and print your boarding pass as soon as you book your flight unless you are flying to or from Central America, USA, Great Britain or South Africa. Unfortunately, in those cases you will have to wait 24 hours before you fly to use the check-in service. The online system will allow you to log on up until an hour before your scheduled departure, and all you need to do once this is completed is deposit any checked baggage you have at the convenient baggage drop kiosks in the airport.

You can print your boarding pass in the form of a PDF document, send it to yourself via email, download it to your internet-connected device, or receive a text with a link on it that will display your pass when clicked. If you misplace your boarding pass before you fly, it is a simple operation to reprint it or download it again using the check-in system. If you still have problems, any of the Iberia check-in desks can reprint it for you.

Unfortunately, online check-in is not available if you are requesting a special service, for example, if the passenger is an unaccompanied minor or needs assistance boarding with a wheelchair.

What is my checked baggage allowance on Iberia?

The Iberia baggage policy allows you to check in a 23 kg bag free of charge on any of your journeys. It must conform to the maximum size allowed, which means it must be less than 158 cm when adding the width, length and height together. It is possible to pay an excess baggage fee and increase this weight to 32 kg, but this is the maximum that baggage handlers are allowed to lift in one package. If you are a Business Class passenger, then you are allowed two such cases, but Express Economy ticket-holders on domestic flights only will not be allocated any hold luggage allowance at all.

If you are flying to the USA or Angola, the allowance is a little different. Reduced Economy ticket-holders are allowed one piece of luggage, normal Economy ticket-holders and Business Class passengers are allowed two and Business Plus customers will be allowed three. If you are travelling with different carriers for parts of your trip, you will need to check what the allowance will be as they may not necessarily be the same as Iberia.

Sports equipment can be carried in the hold but is subject to special consideration depending on the type of equipment concerned. If it is less than the maximum size and weight allowed in your free allocation it may be carried free of charge, but if it exceeds these it may well incur an excess baggage fee.
