About All Nippon Airways
All Nippon Airways, also known as ANA, was founded in 1952 and is headquartered in Tokyo with main hubs at Haneda and Narita Airport. It also operates further flight centres at Kansai International Airport and Osaka International Airport, plus has focus bases at New Chitose Airport in Sapporo and Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya. It is Japan's biggest airline and has extensive domestic as well as international routes. Out of its more than 70 destinations, the most popular flights are those to Honolulu, Chicago, Vancouver, Beijing, Singapore, New York, London and Munich.
To operate these routes, All Nippon Airways maintains a large fleet of more than 200 airplanes. It uses codeshare agreements with airlines such as Air China, Hawaiian Airlines and Lufthansa to increase its offering to passengers. The airline has been a member of the Star Alliance since 1999 and has a number of subsidiaries, including ANA Wings, Air Japan and Vanilla Air.
Online check-in
On domestic flights the airline's online check-in is an automatic service for its passengers. Between 24 hours and 75 minutes before a flight is scheduled to leave, All Nippon Airways will email a passenger their boarding card that they can then print out. This service is not available on international flights. For these flights, passengers can check themselves in online between 24 hours and 75 minutes prior to take-off. Online check-in is not available for passengers younger than 2 or those that require special assistance. The airline's passengers can also check in at the airport by visiting one of the airline's check-in counters.
Hand luggage allowance
All passengers on an ANA flight have the same hand luggage allowance. They are each entitled to 1 item of hand luggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg. The size of hand luggage may not be any larger than 55 x 40 x 25 cm. Any handles, pockets or wheels on a passenger's hand luggage must also fit within this size limit. They may also take 1 personal item on board the flight. Acceptable personal items include handbags, cameras, umbrellas and laptops. If their luggage exceeds these limits, wither by size, number of items or weight, passengers may be charged for having it checked into the hold. Different regulations may apply on codeshare flights.
Checked baggage allowance
On all ANA flights checked baggage allowance depends on a passenger's ticket type. Economy class passengers are allowed 2 items of luggage, each of which may weigh up to a maximum of 23 kg. Business class passengers are also allowed 2 items of luggage, however they may weigh up to a maximum of 32 kg. First class passengers are allowed 3 items of luggage, each weighing up to 32 kg. The combined length, width and height of luggage items must not be greater than 158c cm. There are excess luggage fees which will be applied to any passenger with overweight or oversized luggage.
