Philippine Airlines

About Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines was founded in 1935 under the name Philippine Aerial Taxi, and took on its current name in 1941. It is the Philippine's national flag carrier and is headquartered in Pasay City in the Philippines. Its primary hub is at Ninoy Aquino International Airport with a secondary hub located at Mactan Cebu International Airport. It also has a focus city at Kaino International Airport. It has a convoy of nearly 70 airplanes, with the majority of the fleet made up of Airbus A321s.

It currently serves more than 40 destinations spread across Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, Europe and North America. Some popular routes include Philippine Airlines flights to Brisbane, Toronto, Shanghai and Paris. It has not yet joined any of the three main airline alliances, however in response to this, it has negotiated codeshare arrangements with several other carriers, such as Air Macau, Turkish Airlines, China Airlines and Malaysia Airlines to help it expand its areas of service.

Online check-in

Online check-in for Philippine Airlines flights allows people to print their boarding cards and choose their seat on the airplane. Passengers who need special assistance at the airport, children travelling without an adult or groups of more than 10 people cannot check in online, and instead should check in at the airport. Online check-in is not available on certain routes including those to Xiamen plus flights from Manila to Cebu. Online check-in is also not available on flights to Kalibo, General Santo or Davao. Online check-in opens 24 hours before a flight and closes again 1 hour prior to take-off. Once they've checked in online, passengers should drop off any checked baggage at least 45 minutes before their flight.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers are entitled to 1 item of hand luggage per person on a Philippine Airlines flight. This is subject to a maximum weight of 7 kg and a maximum size combined width, length and height of 115 cm. In addition to this, passengers can bring 2 small personal items such as handbags, purses, coats, laptops or reading material. Passengers with disabilities can also bring their wheelchair, crutches or anything else they need without any extra cost. Infants travelling on a Philippines Airlines flight can bring a foldable stroller or car seat onto the flight, subject to space. Hand luggage that exceeds these allowances will have to be checked into the hold instead and may incur a charge.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked baggage allowance on Philippine Airlines flights varies significantly depending on the passenger's destination as well as their travel class. Budget Economy passengers will have an allowance of somewhere between 10 kg and 46 kg while Regular Economy passengers will have an allowance of somewhere between 20 kg and 46 kg. Premium Economy passengers however are permitted to bring luggage weighing between 20 kg and 64 kg, Business class passengers from 30 kg to 64 kg. Whatever a passenger's checked luggage allowance, they will be charged a fee if they exceed it. These fees also vary on a route-by-route basis.

Excellent airline, but was extremely disappointed they closed the entire airport and my return flight during a typhoon with no easy option to change my flights without having to call for hours to help desk or visit airport desk in person.

Disappointing on the way home. Flight changed for no reason which made me late. Then the flight was further delayed which made me even later. No hatch expect when booking flights to be changed for no apparent reason at the last minute.
