Qatar Airways is the leading airline of Qatar and operates out of Hamad International Airport in Doha. It has the national animal of Qatar, the oryx, as part of its livery and travels to over 150 destinations worldwide. Qatar Airways was the first Gulf state to become a member of one of the big three alliances, joining Oneworld in 2013. It is involved in the benefits of this partnership along with other airlines like Finnair and Cathay Pacific, enjoying shared loyalty programs and joint fares. Qatar Airways flights also have a frequent flyer membership club called Qatar Airways Privilege, where Qmiles can be accrued for priority boarding and upgrades. Qatar Airways also has codeshare agreements with over 20 other airlines including Air Botswana and Bangkok Airways.

How do I check-in online with Qatar Airways?

Qatar Airways online check-in is available 48 hours ahead of your flight so that you can save time at the airport, but if you are travelling from or to the USA it will be open 24 hours before your scheduled departure. You will need your last name and a booking or e-ticket number as well as passport and visa information for each passenger. The check-in system allows you to choose your seats and then print off or download your boarding pass to your phone or other internet-connected device. It also lets you print off a Q-tag which can be attached to your luggage for faster and easier drop-off when you reach the airport. Just make your way to the special Q-tag counter next to the Web Check-in Bag Drop and a Qatar Airways representative will help you. Unfortunately, this service is not currently available if flying from or to the EU from Doha.

What is my checked baggage allowance on Qatar Airways?

For flights to and from Brazil, Argentina, Canada and the USA, the Qatar Airways baggage policy allows passengers to take two pieces of 23 kg each as long as they do not exceed the dimensions of 158 cm when the length, width and height are added together. For Business Class and First Class passengers the weight limit for both pieces of luggage is 32 kg. This allowance can vary depending on the specific route and the class of travel, for example, if the flight is between Doha and Africa passengers are allowed items that add up to 45 kg with maximum overall dimensions of 300 cm. However, any one item is not allowed to exceed 32 kg on its own as this protects the baggage handlers’ safety. For any of the other flights on Qatar Airways, passengers are allowed items that add up to a 30 kg maximum weight with dimensions of 300 cm.

If you are travelling with an infant, their baggage allowance is one piece of luggage up to 10 kg as long as the dimensions are less than 115 cm (Length + width + height). If travelling to or from the USA, Argentina or Brazil the maximum weight is increased to 23 kg. Either way, one stroller, pushchair or collapsible carrycot is carried free of charge for each infant. Children older than two who have a ticket for their own seat are allowed the same baggage allowance as an adult in the same class.

If you would like to take sports equipment with you on your trip, you will have to include it in your allotted baggage allowance. As long as they are safely packaged and less than the weight and size limitations they will be able to be carried in the hold for the duration of the flight. However, if you exceed your allowance, or the equipment is larger or heavier than is allowed you may be subject to an excess baggage fee.

What hand luggage can I take on Qatar Airways?

All passengers may take one piece of hand baggage onto the plane with them but it cannot be larger than 50 cm x 37 cm x 25 cm. When calculating these dimensions you must include any handles, wheels or large pockets that are attached to the bag, and it must not be heavier than 7 kg. The Qatar Airways hand luggage allowance also includes a small personal item which could be a briefcase or handbag.

Qatar Airways does not include a laptop or tablet in its description of the small personal item that passengers are allowed to take onboard with them. It must therefore be placed inside your larger hand luggage until you are on the plane itself.

Liquids cannot be taken into the cabin except under certain circumstances. Creams, gels and aerosols are also similarly restricted, including makeup items such as liquid foundation, mascara and lipstick. All such items should be in containers of 100ml or less and placed in a plastic bag that must be smaller than 20 cm x 20 cm. It must be re-sealable and the containers should fit comfortably inside for scanning by security.

Very good airline. I will always use this airline as long as they operate out of Edinburgh. The cabin staff are always nice, the pilots fly well and land well, the food is good (Except the warm pie like thing they provide). I will use Qatar Airways again and again.
