SATA International
About SATA International
SATA Internacional was founded in 1990 and commenced operations in 1991 under its original name, OceanAir. In 1998 the name of the airline was changed to SATA Internacional after it was purchased by SATA Air Açores. Another major restructuring to the airline took place in 2015, and resulted in a change to its current name, Azores Airlines, however it still operates under its original IATA code of S4. The airline is also a subsidiary of SATA Air Açores.
SATA flights were available to many European destinations such as the Portuguese destinations of Lisbon, Porto, Porta Delgada and Santa Maria Island. There were also flights to many British destinations that included London, Norwich and Manchester, while long haul routes involved flights to the Canadian destinations of Montreal and Toronto. During its time, it was possible to get an SATA flight to Cancún in Mexico and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
Online check-in
Online check-in was available for SATA flights departing from certain airports. Passengers had to first enter their identification details such as a booking code or ticket number as well as their surname. They also had to confirm their seats before completing the check-in process.
Once the process had been completed, they could either receive their boarding pass by email or print it off right away. Passengers who had requested a special service were not always able to check in online. Online check-in was available from a couple of day before the departure of the flight up until just over an hour prior to departure.
Hand luggage allowance
Passengers flying on a SATA flight were able to take 1 piece of hang baggage with them free of charge. This included those flying with an Economy Class ticket that were allowed to take 1 piece of luggage with them. This baggage was not permitted to weigh more than 8 kg or be larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm.
Passengers flying with an Executive Class ticket could also take 2 pieces of luggage as long as neither piece weighed more than 10 kg or was larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Liquid was allowed on board as long as the containers were sealed in a plastic bag and the contents of each container in the bag did not exceed 100ml.
Checked baggage allowance
The baggage allowance for passengers flying with SATA Internacional depended on what ticket tariff they had purchased. Comfort Class ticket holders were allowed to take up to 64 kg on domestic flights and 32 kg on European flights. Passengers with an Economy Class ticket could take between 23 and 46 kg on domestic flights depending on which type of Economy Class ticket they had purchased, while those flying on a European flight could take up to 23 kg. Infants were also allowed to take 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 10 kg. Passengers were advised to label the outside of their luggage with their name and address.

The airline cancelled the flight and seems to be insisting on refunding us with a voucher, which we cannot use. We therefore lost all our money on this booking.
