Spicejet

About Spicejet

SpiceJet was founded in 2005 and is India's fourth biggest carrier. Its headquarters are in Gurgaon. The airline began operations under the branding of an earlier carrier named ModiLuft, which was an air taxi company. It is a low-cost operator, and flies from hubs at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. It operates using a fleet of nearly 40 Boeing 737 and Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.

SpiceJet operates predominately domestic flights and serves 35 destinations within India, however it also flies to several international cities in other Asian and Middle Eastern countries. Altogether, it runs more than 300 flights each and every day. Within India it's most busy routes are those to Delhi, Goa, Kolkata and Bangalore, whilst internationally, tickets to Kabul in Afghanistan, Muscat in Oman, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Bangkok in Thailand, Male in the Maldives and Colombo in Sri Lanka are highly sought after.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online for domestic SpiceJet flights that are departing from all Indian airports, except for those from either Jammu or Srinigar. Passengers are able to check in online between 24 hours and 4 hours before their flight is scheduled to take off. It is not possible to check in online if passengers will be bringing checked luggage with them on the flight. Groups of more than 9 passengers, passengers travelling with young children, passengers needing special assistance or children travelling without an adult also cannot check in online. Passengers can check in at the airport between 2 hours and 30 minutes before a flight.

Hand luggage allowance

Hand luggage on a SpiceJet flight is limited to 1 item of 7 kg per passenger. The maximum size for this depends on the type of plane being used for the flight. Items of hand luggage must have a combined length, height and width of less than 115 cm on Boeing aircraft and less than 108 cm on the smaller Bombardier aircraft. Passengers travelling with an infant are allowed an extra item of hand luggage weighing up to 7 kg in order to transport the items their child will need during the flight, such as diapers or baby food. On flights from Srinigar or Jammu, no hand luggage whatsoever is permitted.

Checked baggage allowance

Unless they have booked a hand luggage only fare, passengers on a domestic SpiceJet flight are entitled to 15 kg of checked luggage per person. On international flights the luggage allowance varies depending on the route. On the Kathmandu, Male and Bangkok routes, passengers can check in up to 20 kg of luggage, while on the Muscat, Colombo, Dubai and Kabul routes, passengers can check in up to 30 kg of luggage. The combined dimensions of checked luggage must be less than 158 cm and no single item of baggage may weigh more than 32 kg or it will be refused carriage. Passengers who exceed their allowance will be charged.
