What hand luggage can I take on Singapore Airlines?

Singapore Airlines cabin baggage allowance restrictions are as follows: Economy and Premium Economy passengers can carry one piece of cabin baggage, which can be up to 7 kg and not exceed 115 cm in total length, width and height. Business Class, Suites and First Class passengers can carry two pieces of cabin baggage with the same weight and size restrictions. All cabin baggage should be able to be stowed overhead or under the seat in front. In addition to this allowance, Singapore Airlines allows its passengers to also carry one of the following items (subject to country restrictions):

  • Ladies’ handbag
  • Camera or camera bag
  • Document bag
  • Coat
  • Umbrella
  • Laptop in bag
  • Infant food and amenities for on board, to not exceed 6 kg
  • Walking stick, crutches or other prosthetic devices if passenger requires them
  • Small amount of duty free goods

Bags from the above list should not measure more than 40 cm x 30 cm x10 cm or 80 cm in total dimension.

Singapore Airlines was founded in 1947 as Malayan Airways and commenced operations in 1972. It is the flag carrier airline of Singapore with 115 aircraft consisting of Airbus A330, Airbus A350, Airbus A380, Boeing 777, and Boeing 787. It was the launch airline for the Airbus A380. Singapore Airlines has codeshare agreements with 39 other airlines, such as Virgin Atlantic and Malaysia Airlines and has two subsidiaries – SilkAir which operates regional flights and low-cost carrier Scoot. The parent company is Temasek Holdings. Singapore Airlines is part of the Star Alliance network and KrisFlyer is the airline’s frequent flyer programme. How do I check in online with Singapore Airlines?

Singapore Airlines online check-in is available 48 to one and a half hours before flight, using the SQ/MI booking reference. This can be used either to check in individual passengers or groups. Alternatively, passengers can use their SQ/MI E-ticket number to book in individually from 48 to two hours before flying. For greater convenience they can check in using their PPS Club/KrisFlyer membership number and PIN. Boarding passes can be printed or downloaded to a mobile device before going to the airport, if flying from from certain cities. If passengers have checked baggage they should arrive two and a half hours before departure, otherwise they should arrive one and a half hours before departure.

What is my checked baggage allowance on Singapore Airlines?

Checked baggage is based on either weight (to all destinations except the US) or piece (to US destinations only). Singapore Airlines baggage allowance will be stated on the ticket. Weight allowances for Economy passengers are 35 kg (Flexi) and 30 kg (Standard and Lite), and PPS Club members are allowed an extra 30 kg. Premium Economy passengers are allowed a basic 35 kg, with an extra 35 kg for PPS Club members. Business Class passengers are allowed 40 kg, with an extra 40 kg for PPS Club members. Suites and First Class passengers are allowed 50 kg, with an extra 50 kg for PPS Club Members. KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members are allowed an extra 20 kg for all classes.

For piece luggage, Economy and Premium Economy passengers are entitled to two free pieces, each up to 23 kg; PPS Club members are allowed an extra two pieces, each up to 23 kg, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members an extra piece up to 23 kg. Business Class, Suites and First Class passengers are entitled to two pieces, each up to 32 kg; PPS Club members are allowed an extra two pieces, each up to 32 kg, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members an extra piece up to 32 kg.

For both weight and piece concept luggage, the total dimensions of each checked baggage must not exceed 158 cm. If travelling with an infant passengers can also check in a fully collapsible stroller or pushchair and a carry-cot or car seat free of charge, as well as one piece of normal baggage per infant. Checked baggage should not include medication, valuable items, important documents, laptops, jewellery, cash, fragile items or perishable items.
