A long weekend in Tenerife
You'd be amazed how many activities you can fit in over a long weekend in Tenerife. There's something for everyone, whether you're a sun worshipper, a lover of nature or a party animal. But don't just take our word for it. Read on to find out what to do in Tenerife so you can make the best use of your time when you're on a tight schedule.
Day 1: What to do in Tenerife
What better way to start your trip in Tenerife than heading to one of the many stunning beaches on the island? Costa Adeje, located on the southwest coast of the island, boasts gorgeous beaches and views of the North Atlantic Ocean.
You can sunbathe before enjoying local Canarian delicacies in one of the many beach bars dotted along the coast. After lunch, you can go snorkelling or if you want a more leisurely pursuit, you take a boat trip to observe whales and dolphins.
Day 2: Visit Playa de las Americas
Why not start your second day in Tenerife with a guided hiking tour of Mount Teide? The volcano, which is the 3rd-highest in the world, provides you with breathtaking views of the island and although it is an active volcano, you don't need to worry as the last eruption took place in 1909.
Just remember to take a jumper or jacket as it can get chilly when you reach the top! If you want to conserve your energy, you can take the cable car. It won't take you to the peak, but you'll still experience some magnificent views.
After lunch, you could head to Siam Park, a Thai-themed water park, where you can relax on Siam Beach and hire a cabana. If you're feeling adventurous, you can sample some of the high-adrenaline attractions such as the Tower of Power water slide, which passes an aquarium of sharks on the way down.
As evening approaches, you'll start to think about sampling the nightlife of Tenerife. The nearby Playa de las Americas is the place to head for with the lively resort featuring some of the best bars and clubs on the island.
Day 3: Take a breather at Loro Parque
After a night of partying, you'll probably need a relaxing final day. You can be at one with nature by enjoying a stroll around Loro Parque, which began life as a parrot sanctuary and its over 4,000 parrots now share the zoo with a wide range of animals including meerkats, lions and chimpanzees.
If you're still full of beans (preferably the garbanzo beans you'll find in a delicious Ropa Vieja stew), the afternoon gives you a chance to visit the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and witness the varied landscapes of the island. Alternatively, you could relax in a beach bar and enjoy the sun while sipping Barraquito, a local drink consisting of liqueur, coffee and lemon. Just make sure you keep an eye on the time, as we don't want you to miss your flight!
In order to discover the beautiful landscapes of the surroundings, you can always rent a car in Tenerife and travel the open road.
